An anti-cyclone extends from Australia across the north Tasman Sea to northern New Zealand, where pressure has risen considerably. A rather deep •secondary depression was. however, crossing the southern portion of the South Island early this morning, and it is probable that other secondaries will follow it. Forecast.—Moderate to strong westerly winds, of gale force in places, backing shortly to southerly. Weather cold and changeable, with occasional passing showers and possibly some hail. Seas rough. RIVER GAUGE AT PALMERSTON NORTH. Noon.—3ft 9in.
