COMPARATIVE FIGURES. INCREASES ON LAST YEAR. WELLINGTON, July 28. Exports from New Zealand during June- showed the usual seasonal decline, but nt £5,493,000 .their value was £1,212,000 ahead of that for June 1.036. Imports last month were valued at £3,060,000, a decline of £481,000 on tho May figure, but £526.000 in excess of that for June, ID3U. For the twelve months of tho “production year” ended Juno 30, exports readied the record value of £64,621,000, while imports were valued nt £50,001,000, making a total trade for the year of £114,022,000. ’file returns issued to-day by the Customs Department show that exports during June were valued at £5,403,000, an increase of £1,272,000 over those for June, 1036, and £2,266,000 in excess of those for June, 1935. Imports during dune were valued at £3,060,000 an increase of £526,000 over those for June, 1936, and £1,604,000 above tlios® for June, 1935. The June figures for the last three years compare as follow; —
For the first half of this year ended June 30, exports reached the high level of £42,100,000, an increase of £7.869,000 over those for the corresponding six months of last year, and £14,991,000 in excess of those for the six months of 1935. Imports are still mounting up, those for the latest six months being valued at £25,727,000, an increase of £5,866,000 over those for the 1936 period, and more than tlioso for the first half of 1935, The trade position for the first six months of the Inst three years is shown in the following comparative tabic:— Excess of Six months. Much of the increase is accounted for bv the high prices ruling for wool. Allowing for depreciation of currency the figure is well ahead of that for 1929-30.
