IRISH YOUTH’S LUCK.

A young man who enrolled at a North Island placement office a few days ago stated that he had landed in New Zealand during the previous week. He was a native of Ireland, and though his credentials indicated that he had had a fairly good education, he had no apparent qualifications for any kind of work. While he was waiting in the placement office a business man who needed an assistant called. The lad was introduced to him, and after a short chat he promised to engage him. The youth’s astonishment at his rapid entry into the ranks of the Dominion’s wagerearners caused his employer some embarrassment. It was later learned that the employer had landed in New Zealand under similar circumstances, about fifteen years ago, alid so there was a synipathetic angle to his prompt offer of employment.
