TEST COMMENT.
RESULT NOT SURPRISING. Received Julv 29, 10.25 a.m. SYDNEY, July 29. Air C. G. Macartney, commenting in the Herald on the second cricket Test, says: “The result was not surprising, hut from New Zealand’s point of view it was somewhat disappointing. Nevertheless, England, after making a good start and applying the closure in the first innings, canuot be jubilant at the margin. The New Zealand bowlers showed to advantage in the second half of the match, and if their batsmen had performed with equal satisfaction they probably would have won. The. dismissal of England for 187 was a howling triumph for an attack designated as weak, and was a fine achievement by C'owie. New Zealand were then in a sound position, but the batting failed to consolidate it.
“The debacle of New Zealand’s second innings appears to have been caused by inexperience. The Englishmen possess the knowledge to deal with a tense situation, whereas their less informed opponents would prohahlv suffer from over-carofulnoss, which would seriously interfere with their natural game.”
