CONFERENCE OPENS.

SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 28. The South African Veterans’ conference was opened to-day by Hon. F. Jones (Defence Minister and Minister in Charge of War Pensions). He mentioned that the national health and superannuation legislation tc be presented in the coming session would be of great assistance to them, and if he could do anything to meet their problems he would be glad to do so. The report stated that the number in receipt of the South African War pension at March 31 was 97, an increase of seven for the year. 1116 number receiving pensions for disabilities contracted in the South African War was 56, including dependants.
