“The Great Broxopp,” by A. A. Milne, was staged at Stratford by the Central Taranaki area of the British Drama League. ‘Margot Grahamc has been set for the feminine lead in “Clementina,” the film which Robert Donat is due to make.
“It Pays to Advertise,” an amusing farce, was staged at Auckland by the Sheridan Players, under the direction of Miss Nell Lusk. “Please Teacher,” adapted from the successful London Hippodrome comedy, features Bobby Howes. Wylie Watson, Bertha Belmore, Vera Pearce, and Rene Rav. : *
the Gonsalez Italian Opera Company, which visited New Zealand some years ago, is likely to come out again at the conclusion of a tour of the Far East. “Let’s Make a Night Of It,” bright, witty and frivolous, features Buddy Rogers and June Clyde, and introduces a host of other radio, stage and screen stars.
The Auckland Operatic Society, which is busy on rehearsals of “Sally,” has engaged Mrs Arthur Hunter, an Australian professional producer. Mary Maguire, the young Australian actress, who was taken to Hollywood by Miles Mander after her success in' the Australian film “The Flying Doctor,” opposite Charles Farrei, is to bo starred in “Alcatraz.” Nelson Eddy, who wjjl next be seen with Jeannette MacDonald in “Maytime,” an operetta of the ’7o’s, was once a newspaper man. He learned to sing by following songs on the gramophone.
Sheridan’s “School for Scandal” was given by the Playhouse Players at Auckland under the direction of Mr and,Mrs Bailey. A London firm is now working on a script for a sequel to “Sanders of the River.” It is understood that Paul Robeson will play the leading role, supported by Sabu, boy star of “Elephant Boy.” One of the world’s most distinguished figures makes his first screen appearance in “Moonlight Sonata.” Tliis is Paderewski, greatest pianist of the age, international statesman, and former Premier of Poland.
