Mrs J. Peters, of Inglewood, lias returned home after visiting Palmerston North.

Miss A. M, E. Bodley, of Birmingham, arrives in Palmerston North early next week to visit Mr a.nd Mrs F. W. Gowing. Miss Bodley is a cousin of Mr Gowing, and they have not seen each other since they had their schooling together in England 48 years ago.

Mrs Dixon, of Wellington, is staying with her daughter, Mrs J. V. Curtis, of Halcombe. Mrs G. G. Haneox, president of the Palmerston North branch of the League of Mothers, and Mrs It. Currin, treasurer, visited Wellington today on business in connection with the league. Mrs J. A. Wilkinson, of Elmira Avenue, who has been an inmate of a private hospital, has recovered sufficiently to return home, her friends will be glad to learn. Mrs C. F. Waters, of Kowhai Avenue, leaves Palmerston North next Friday for Wellington, to spend a holiday with her mother,' Mrs Bellringer, before taking up her residence, with her husband, in Wellington. Mrs A. Coomb (president), Mrs M. Aitchison (secretary-treasurer), and Mrs H. B. Free represented the Palmerston North branch of the Plunket Society at the Wanganui Plunket provincial • conference, held at Wanganui ■ yesterday. Mrs G C. Petersen also attended the conference, which provides the opportunity for helpful discussion on matters of interest.

Miss Nan Braekenridge leaves Wellington next week to take up a position in Palmerston North, and was farewelled by members of the Paua Tramping Club at Hataitai, at an evening gathering held in her honour. Begret was expressed that the club would be losing such an enthusiastic tramper as Miss Braekenridge, and she was presented with a camera. An .announcement in the Gazette was made last evening of new appointments to the Commission of the Peace and in the number there are several women. Among those who are now able to affix the letters “J.P.” after their names, in the districts from Marlborough and Nelson to*Taranaki and the East Coast, are Mrs Clara Bates (Wanganui), Miss Evelyn Berry, Mrs Marie Lee, Mrs .Barbara Reid, and Mrs Margaret Semple (all of Wellington).
