ASSOCIATION MEETING. MANAWATU-OROUA BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Mana-watu-Oroua branch of the New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association was held yesterday, Mr G. M. Whitelock presiding over a good attendance. The annual report (already published) was read and adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr G. MWhitelock; vice-presidents, Messrs O. C. Ellerm and C. S. Hunt; committee, Messrs J. A. Russell, W. P. Bickers, W. L. West, H. E. Fieldhouse W. A. Davison, C. P. McMeekan, E. P. Nielsen, W. J. Dairy companies in the district are to be circularised asking each to nominate a member to sit on the commitIt was decided to circularise members ex-members and prospective members pointing out the benefits of belonging to the association. The chairman said that the saving effected in being able to buy pig meal through the branch was about 30s a ton, and in itself justified membership At a meeting of the committee held pridr to the annual meeting the conditions for the branch s auction sale to be held in September were fully gone into. It was stated that at the last sale conducted by tihe branch the entries were really too heavy, with too many young pigs. It "' a ® f ed that each breeder be limited to two entries per breed under fou months of age. With reference to transfers, it was agreed that the minimum price for pigs under four months be £3 3s, with _£4 4s as a minimum for pigs over, four months if transfers are to be issued I uiebred pigs are to be disposed of before commercial sows are offered, the term “commercial” applying to puiebred sows in young to a purebred boar of another breed. The show, held on the last occasion in connection with the sale, was considered hardly justified as it was thought that the buyer was the best judge on such occasions. No show is to be held ill connection with the September sale. ,' It was decided not to accept fate entries. . ... A meeting of the new committee was also held later. The president was appointed delegate on the Wellington District Pig Council which, was recently set up under the national scheme of instruction and research for the pig industry. ' , , . The Now Zealand Pig Breeders Association wrote with reference to the branch’s remits to the annual meeting. The first ono, ‘‘That judges of the association should be appointed to inspect all pigs offered at private sales, had been defeated; but the second one.
“That an annual breed return of stock be received from every pedigree breeder,” had been approved. . The Wanganui A. and P. Association advised that it was reviving its pig section -at the show and solicited a donation.—lt was decided to offer a trophy valued £it £3 3s as a points prize in the purebred sections. Mr W. M. Williams, of Fitzherbert West, was added to the. list of associate judge’s subject to the approval of the council. Congratulations were extended to Messrs E. P. Nielsen, W. J. Croucher and J. M. Croucher on the very fine display stand at the recent Winter Show. Returning thanks, Mr Nielsen said the display was an excellent one and the success was really due to the breeders, who had co-operated in a splendid way. - It was decided to convey a letter of thanks to the Manawatu A. and P. | Association for the use of its rooms for meetings and for other assistance.
