OROUA BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Oroua Bowling Club reads: “It i 9 pleasing to note the club membership has increased and there is every prospect of several new members being added to our roll this coming year. With the end of the year 1935-36 the number of mom hors stood at 49 and for 1936-37 at 57. Tho. benefit of the increase in the number of members is reflected in the substantial surplus shown on tho _ balancesheet. Tho usual visits to our neighbouring clubs were carried out. We again had the pleasure of welcoming six rinks of the Thorndon Club. Oroua managed to win the Loving Cup by four points. A pleasant trip was made to Wanganui East with five rinks. On this occasion the Wanganui bowlers held the trophy. On one occasion progressive rinks were played between the members of both Feilding and Oroua clubs. Smithers Cup: This competition between Feilding and Oroua was again held. On the first occasion Feilding proved the winners, Oroua being victorious on the second. Entwisle Shcild: This again was contested on two occasions, Oroua proving the winners on both. Tournaments: Mr Hicka kept the Oroua colours well to the front at the Rotorua Christmas tournament. Tho club wsj* also represented, with the Manawatu Centre, at Masterton and at Levin, Pahiatua and Wellington. , All the tripe proved most enjoyable and well worth while. Manawatu Centre tournament pairs: The club was represented by Messrs Petrie and Simpson. Champion singles: Oroua was not represented. Rinks: A rink skipped by Mr Hewat entered. Easter tournament: Tho following rinks took part: Messrs Hamilton, McDonald, J. P. Petrie, Hicks (skip); Law, Andrews, Simpson, Attkcn (skip). Club competition: Much regret mu s t be expressed as to the manner m which members got their respective games off this season, only one competition having been completed, the Pearce Challenge Cup Mr H. C. Guthrie was again the successful competitor. Improvements: A considerable amount of work nas again been done on both tho croquet and bowling greens. Drains have been opened up

and it is expected that storm water will disappear more readily. A new electric mower, one of tho very best, has been installed, which now brings tho plant of the club up to tho last word of efficiency. Appreciation: I personally desire to thank tho committee and members who have worked so harmoniously together and assisted to place the club, both financially and otherwise, in the splendid position it is in to-day. The committee's thanks are due to Mr Pagan and Mr Hamilton for the use of their offices for committee meetings. Tho committee desires to pliicc on rcoord its appreciation of the services that Mr Hicks has rendered to the club. Mr Hicks is now leaving Feilding and taking up his residence in Dannevirke. The committee looks forward to tho incoming scaeon with every confidence, and, with the continued effort of all members, a very successful year.” The repoit is signed by tho president, Mr C. Hausinann.
