TRAFFIC REGULATIONS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I would like to ask through your columns why motorists do not observe the regulations as regalds the pedestrian lane-3 at intersections. As interpreted in other towns motorists are expected to give way to pedestrian traffic on their right where the lines are marked out, but in l’alnieiston North the lanes have been made for the folk to gaze at and wonder, because 1 have had the experience of pulling up at these lanes to give way to pedestrians w r ho have stopped and looked at me in wonder, and then to my surprise have 6een cars pass me at an excessive rate. I realised then that the public of this city had not been advised of the reason for the nice lines painted across the street. Now, Palmerston North is known for its indifferent traffic regulations, and as a visitor 1 can assure you that turning in main streets other than at intersections would not be. tolerated in much smaller towns with just as wide streets. I consider that the local authorities should see that their officers e r force the regulations and also that greater publicity should be given this matter for as a motorist of niuliv vears’ standing I knoiv that- laws aio needed for some motorists who do not consider other folk, but most important of all there must be co operation and knowledge of regulations bv both pedestrian and motorist alike. —I am, CtC " TEMPORARY RESIDENT.
