INTERPRETER FREED.

ARREST AT ADDIS ABABA. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 28. The decision of the Italian Government to free Tafara Werk, an Abyssinian who was formerly employed as an interpreter at the British Legation and Consulate-General at Addi 6 Ababa, was announced in the House of Commons by the Foreign Secretary, Mr R. A. Eden, who explained that Werk’s functions had never entitled him to enjoy a privileged position, and that the British Government, though it had made representations at Rome, had no locus standi on his behalf.

The Foreign Secretary added : “His Majesty’s Government appreciate the goodwill of the Italian Government and the personal interest which I understand the heads of the Italian Government have 6liown in this matter.”
