THIRTEEN YEARS OLD.

MANAWATU WOMEN’S CLUB. The thirteenth anniversary of the Manawatu Women’s Club was celebrated by a birthday party held at Messrs Collinson and Cunmnghame’s tearooms yesterday afternoon, when there was a record attendance. Mrs A. E. Hansford presided, and welcomed as guests of honour Mr J. H. Stevens, founder of the club, and Mrs Stevens. She presented Mr Stevens with a buttonhole and Mrs Stevens with a bouquet. The room was artistically arranged with spring blossoms, bulb flowers, and snowdrops, behind the main table being a red and blue stand with “We Are Thirteen To-day” lettered in gold. The hostesses were Mesdames T. W. Henderson, W. T. Royal, and F. Gatlev.

Visitors welcomed were Mrs A. Breen (Dunedin), Airs W. A. Cooper (Dargavilie), Airs G. Cranston (Ohakune), Aliss I. A’eoman (Auckland), Aliss AI. Yeoman (Auckland), Mrs I. Fairbrother (Cambridge), Airs .Blixt (Poliaiigina). Mrs D. B. Rowe (Kopane). Aliss Z. Leanrv (Kairanga), Airs R. Goldsack (Toko), Airs T. Aloynihan (Westport). Airs G. Harris (Wellington), Airs Dawson Fast (Auckland), Aliss P. Haythorne (Kauwhata), Miss 11. Alattliewson. Mesdames S. Freeman. Linton. AVebster, Guy Cameron. H. Palmer, Alisses B. Blixt, N. Hansel. AA 7 aters and N. Pearce (all of Palmerston North). Airs AA 7 imsett was welcomed hack after her recent illness.

Air Stevens, in congratulating the club on attaining its thirteenth birthday, conveyed greetings from the Citizens’ Lunch Club. The A\omen’s Club had collected the sum of £'4B6 from members, and this money had been expended wisely and well, practically half, having been paid to benefactions. Alembers had personally contributed to children’s health camps a sum which could not be estimated. Social and intellectual interests were well served by tire club, which had a membership of 110. Mf and Mrs Stevens were congratulated on attaining their 56th year of married life.

Airs L. H. Collinson opened the programme in a pleasing manner by contributing ’cello solos, “Somewhere ■a Voice is Calling,” and “Ah, Sweet Mystery 1 of Life,” her accompaniste being Airs R. C. Donald. “The New Pupil” was the title of an amusing dialogue presented by Miss AI. Cranston a.nd Aliss Pamela Haythorne, which received hearty applause. The- fine voice of Air E. G. Spraggon was heard to advantage in “Alenin Gate” and “Trees” (by special request), Mrs A . G. Clift playing the accompaniments. Aliss Alonic.a Lynch sang “Coming Home” and “Home, Little Maori, Home,” with her usual charm, and two musical monologues. “Things That Isn’t True” and “Little Tan Shoes, were the popular contribution of Airs D. B. Rowe. Two vocal solos, “April Is a Lady” and “Dawn,” were rendered with rare sweetness by Master Airs It. A. Fuller, who was hostess at accompaniste for these items. Airs R. A. Fullre, who was hostess at the thirteenth meeting of the club, was accorded acclamation. A special afternoon tea was served, and a handsome birthday cake was cut by Airs Stevens, who kindly donated it. Slices were also cut by Mrs Fuller, and two of the original members of the club. Airs T. R. Aloore and Airs AI. Aitchison. Prizes were presented to Airs V • A. Cooper (Dargavilie) and Airs F. Garner, whose birthdays were celebrated that day. ~ The floral emblems were the artistic work of Airs AV. AV. Coutts. Airs Gatlev thanked those who had contributed "to the enjoyable programme.
