LAWN TENNIS.

NORTHERN CLUB. The annual report of the tennis section of the Northern Club states that the season was satisfactory despite the very inclement weather which prevailed consistently until February. The club teams did very well, the A team being runners-up to the Palmerston North Club; the B team won the B grade section. The men’s championship singles were won by Mr D. McMurray for the second time. This player represented the club in the district games. The ladies’ title was won by Miss J. Bowers, a comparatively new player. The men’s doubles championship was won by Messrs McMurray and Hume and the ladies’ doubles by Mrs W. H. Wilson and Miss R. Kirk. The winners of the mixed doubles were Mrs R. C. French and Mr D. Barnett. The handicap events were finalised as follow: Men's singles, Mr M. Davidson; ladies’ singles, Miss M. Aikman; men’s doubles, Messrs Davidson and Rees; ladies’ doubles. Misses Bowers anu Aikman; mixed doubles, Miss Griffiths and Mr B. Louisson. Socially the section was a happy one. Two dances were held in the pavilion and a dance in the city. At the latter the vice-president, Mr D. Macpherson, presented the trophies won during the season. Thanks are extended to the greenkeeper and to the ladies’ tea committee.
