AMAZING OPERATION.

HEART COVERING CUT. Received July 31, 9.35 a.m. LONDON, July 30. The Times Milan correspondent says that an extraordinary surgical operation was carried out by Professor Aldo Defrise on a 52-year-old man who suffered from pericarditis. He made an opening between the ribs, took hold of the man’s heart, cut the pericardium and removed it and then put the heart back in place and stitched up the wound. The operation lasted 80 minutes and was completely successful. The man is now in good health.

The pericardium is the sac wliicli encloses the heart and roots of the great blood vessels. It consists of an outer fibrous coat and a doublo inner coat, one layer of which adheres closely to the heart.
