GOOD BOWLING

BATTING FAILURE. DOMINION v. GLAMORGAN. ' BATSMEN FORCE PACE. (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association with the Team.) (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) SWANSEA, July 31. The weather- was beautifully fine and the wicket good for the opening of the match between the New Zealand cricketers and Glamorgan. With Cowie under treatment for gastric influenza in London and Dunning and Roberts unable to play, New Zealand faced a difficult task in attempting to dislodge the county standing sixtli on the championship table. They succeeded creditably with very steady bowling supported by safe catching. Lamason bowled off-spinners of admirable length. At one period his figures were eight overs, four maidens, for eight runs and three wickets. Moloney turned the ball well and maintained a good length. Page, Weir and Carson were useful supports. Vivian, after a very fine spell of accurate bowling, split a finger and retired. Galliehan maintained a steady length and was remarkably inexpensive. The Swansea wicket was fast, but receptive to spin. The Welsh crowd showed typical fervour at a sensational opening to New Zealand’s innings. Matthews, the former Northants fast-medium bowler and now coaching at Stowe School, who qualified for the team through his birth at Penarth, took two wickets with successive balls in the first over. Clay and Jones, who are the same type of bowler as Goddard, also had quick successes,

New Zealand scored 100 in an hour, but lost six wickets, all the batsmen forcing the pace. Another wicket fell in the last over. Vivian, Lamason and Galliehan have yet to bat. The match coincided with' the start of the bank holidays’ and the attendance was about 5000. Details:—
