IN THE MANAWATU.

CHAMPIONSHIP DECIDED. KIA TOA’S SUCCESS. Through their defeat of Old Boys at the Showgrounds on Saturday, by 6 points to 3, Kia Toa won the Manawatu Rugby Union’s senior championship competition for the current season. Old Boys held a three-point lead at the interval, but Kia Toa equalised, and then a sensational try by Simpson gave them the points which secured for them the championship. Kia Toa, having won both rounds of the competitions, took the honours without having to nlay off. They finished the second round one point ahead of St. Patrick’s who, however, had beaten them at each meeting, only to go under in other matches. Had Old Boys won the match on Saturday they would have been required to meet St. Patrick’s to determine the winner of the round, the team emerging successfully having the right to contest the championship issue with Kia Toa, winners of the first round. However, this eventuality did not occur. Playing the first game of the subsidiary competition, Feilding eliminated St. Patrick’s in the only other senior match. There were no junior matches, the Manawatu representatives in this division being engaged in a match with Te Kawau at Awahuri. but the lower grade fixtures were continued.
