POINT-TO-POINT EVENTS. Tile Horowhenuu branch of tho Manawatu Hunt Club hold its annual point-to-point steeplechase meeting under excellent weather conditions on tho Levin ltacecoursc on Saturday. Tho trophies wero presented by tho president, Dr S. J. Thompson. Results: OTAICI LIGHTWEIGHT POINT-TO-POINT STEEPLECHASE, minimum weight 11.0; open to all qualified hunters. About two miles. —Hymgrcat (A. Marshall) 1, Otaurn King (R. Jllenkhorn) 2, Maltira •(A. Denton) 3. Also started : . King Carol. Otaura King, Hymgrcat, Makira and King Carol led ovor the first mile and a half, when Ilymgreat joined tho leader on the turn. In tho straight ho fought it out with a fast finish to win by eight lengths, with five lengths between second and third. MANAWATU HEAVYWEIGHT POINT-TO-POINT STEEPLECHASE; minimum weight, 13.0; open to all horses qualified with tho Manawatu hunt season 1937, and which have not won more than £5 in stakes. About two miles. Mr C. Brickland’s GAMBLER (R. Blenkborn) i Air J. Nicholson’s GIVEN (E. Davies) 2 Mr J. Nicholson's BESSTE (L. Brickland) 3 Gambler took tho load with Killarney, Suspension Bridge, Bessie, Given. AU went well until the last liurdlo, which proved t.o bo the cause of a series of mishaps. Killarney, who joined tho loader at this stage, swerved and failed to jump, and though first past tho post was disqualified, tho l'uee going to Gambler. At tho same obstacle Suspension Bridge crashed badly. Ilis rider was still prone on the ground surrounded by a number of helpers when Given and Bessie came up from a long way hack. They were thus unable to tako the fence, nnd, having gone buck to make them eligible, vUiere placed second and third.

MAIDEN HUNTERS’ TRIAL; lady riders; open to all qualified hunters, season 1937, and ridden by women members of any affiliated hunt, limited to horses that have not won a first prize at an A. and I’, show. —Ilakamana 1, Bahrain 2, Southern Queen 3. OPEN HIGH WEIGHT STEEPLECHASE: minimum weight 12.0; open to all qualified hunters. About two miles.. — Tarnbo (E. 11, Duncan), 1, Gentleman Jim (I. Williams) 2, Zip (W. W. Wilson) 3. Also started: Tally-Ho, Paddy’s Lad, Baliram. The field settled down with Paddy’s Lad in charge from Tambo, Gentleman Jim, Tally-Ho, Zip and Bahrain. On to the course proper tho order remained the same, with Gentleman Jim going to the front at tho stand double. Tambo joined him going into tho back stretch, and the pair opened up a big gap from the bunch, headed by Paddy’s Lad. 'lambo gradually drew out to win by one length. Zip finished a poor third, ten lengths away, and Paddy’s Lad fourth. OPEN HUNTERS’ TRIALS; women riders: open to all qualified hunters, season 1937. and ridden by lady members of any affiliated hunt. —Glendowie 1, Ilakamnna 2. Handyman 3. LADIES’ BRACELET: minimum weight 10.7; opqn to all qualified hunters, season 1937. About one mile and a quarter. —Kohika 1, King Thomond 2. Valroi 3. Also slnrted : Ythan, Maureen, Parson’s Gift, Laughing Lad. Laughing Lad was first- to break tho lino, with Valroi, Kohilta, Parson’s Gift and King Thomond in that order. Going into the back stretch, Valroi took charge from Laughing Lad, Parson’s Gift and Kiliika, while.* with threo furlongs to go. Parson’s Gift joined Valroi and Laughing Lad, and the three raced together into the straight with Kohika handy. As they straightened up Kohika came through and went on for a win by three lengths from King Thomond. who boat Valroi by a length. Ilymgreat was fourth.
