SUPREME COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH SENTENCES. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, August ST. Maurice Moore, wtio was found guilty of having blown up a house valued at £SOO at Stillwater, was to-day sentenced by Mr Justice Northcroft to twelve months’ imprisonment. In passing sentence the Judge pointed out that Moore had made the crime more serious in that the explosion might have injured anyone who was passing at the time. Had it not been for the jury’s recommendation to mercy and accused’s age, he would probably have sentenced him to two years. Reginald Merton Semb, who was found guilty of theft, was sentenced to six months. Alan Mangels, who pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to stop a car after an accident, was fined £lO and lie was prohibited from holding a license for three years. The Judge remarked that the offence was aggravated by the fact that prisoner had previous convictions for offences arising principally out of drink and that Mangels was at the time of the offence under a prohibition order. In imposing the penalty he took into account The fact that Mangels had already been in prison three months awaiting trial.
