LAST WEEK’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Trading was fairly active on New Zealand stock exchanges last week, the bulk of the business done being in the ' n n u! ?" trial and trading- concerns. On the Wellington Stock Exchango recorded dealings covered £7OOO worth of Government loans and some 13,500 shares aggregating nearly £22,000. With the exception of bank and a few other issues the markets were generally firm. There was a keen demand for Government loans. Supplies were not plentiful, but a fair turnover in 34 por cent, and 4 per rent, issues was recorded at firm rates. Bank shares remained dull throughout the week, with an caßy tendency excopt for New Zealand ordinaries, which moved up from 43s 7d to 44s 9d; the D long-term mortgage issue was firm at 30s. Commercial of Australia weakened on Bnles from 18s 6d to 18s Id. National of Now Zealand sold at 60s to 60s 3d.. Tho only other recorded dealings were in New South Wales at £34 10s to £34 16s. Little change was seen in pastoral and financial issues. Insurance shares were very firm, particularly South British, which sold at 98s to 98s 6d. Now Zealand wore done at 66s co 66s Id and Nutional at 18s. Coal-min-ing troubles at Newcastle caused a setback to Broken Hill Proprietary, notwithstanding the 'announcement of a record profit for the last year. After touching 85s 3d the shares fell away to 82s, but were firmer on Saturday at 82s 3d to 82s 9d Broken Hill South were actively traded at from 48s 2d to 47s 7d. prices being slightly firmer on Saturday. Electrolytic Zinc and Mount Lvell were also active, but prices were slightly easier on the week. North Broken Hill firmed from 74s 9d In 75s Id. ■Mount Morgan improved fractionally on active trading. Brewery shares were relatively quiet and prices showed minor changes. N.Z. Refrigerant wore well supported at firm prices. Woollen and other textile issues were steady. Australian Glass made a sharp advance during the week, shies ranging from 92s fid Up .to 95s 6d. British Tobacco were slightly irregular. Consolidated Brick were firmer at up to 9s sd. Tn the rest of a varied turnover of industrial and trading issues prices wore generally firm. G. J Coles topped £5 11s 3d. but eased a little later in the week. The Woohvorths issues were active with good support for the South Africa holdings. McKenzie’s Department Stores were firmer on the week at up to 83s. Silknit advanced from 49s 6d to 50s 3d. Jbero was a fair turnover in Moturoa and Taranaki Oil. Gold-mining issues were dull. Wellington Alluvial firmed to 5s 6d. SATURDAY’S QUOTATIONS.
