DOMINION CRICKETERS

DIFFICULT TASK FACED. MATCH WITH GLAMORGAN. POOR BATTING EFFORT. (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Assoeiation with the Team.) (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 3, 9.55 a.m. LONDON* Aug. 2. In their match' with Glamorgan, the New Zealand cricketers’ first innings realised only 127 against the county's 229. Glamorgan in the second innings scored 340, and New Zealand has three wickets down for 71.

The New Zealanders spent a fatiguing day chasing the leather in brilliant sunshine. The outfield was fast and the wicket hard. Dyson and Davies, the opening Glamorgan pair, established a fine partnership which yielded 157 runs. Smart later hit brilliantly, his score including ten fours and three sixes. New Zealand’s weakened attack stood the testing creditably. Vivian, who was practically inexhaustible, bowled almost continuously from one end. Despite.an injured bowling band he bad one deadly spell just after bieaking the first-wicket partnership, taking three wickets lor four runs in four overs. Lamason and Moloney were steady for long periods. Carson was effective with the second new ball. The casualty list is growing. Kerr retired with a poisoned heel and Tindill fielded, taking a fine catch. Enthusiastic Welshmen from all parts of the Principality thronged the St. Helen’s ground, where Swansea beat the All Blacks. The attendance was 12,000 easily eclipsing that at the Manchester Test. New Zealand hatted for a little over an hour. They began the difficult task determinedly, but three wickets fell in quisk succession to the slow lefthander Davies. f Details:— GLAMORGAN.
