MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

BY-LAW CASES. Air J. L. Stout, S.M., presided over tho sitting of the Alagistrate’s Court at Palmerston North yesterday. For using a cycle at night without the roar mudguard painted white, J. G. Roiston, of Ohau, was fined 10s, with 14s costs.

G. F. Tippler, of Shannon, was fined £2, with 16s costs, on a charge of failtire to give way to traffic approaching from tho right at the intersection of Rntigitikei Street and the Square on July 3. Senior-Sergeant Alclntyre stated that defendant’s vehicle had been involved in a collision with another car, which had turned over on its 6ide, two of the occupants suffering cuts. Pleas of guilty were entered by Edward AVhitehead to charges of failing to report an accident with his vehicle, involving Allan AlcNa.e, to not possessing a driver’s license, and to not having a warrant of fitness for his vehicle. Senior-Sergeant Alclntyre said defendant had driven in from Woodviile with two companions, McNae sitting on some wood in the dickey 6eat. They had a few drinks at Aslihurst, and while travelling iat a. high speed near the gasworks, the car left the road, crashing into a tree. AlcNae was thrown off and slightly injured, having to receive medical attention. Defendant said he had only bought the car two days previously, and he alleged that AlcNae had fallen off before the car struck the tree. Penalties of £l, with 13s costs, on the first charge. 10s, with 10s costs on the second charge and £l, with 10s costs on tho third charge, were imposed.
