(From Our Own Correspondent.) WHAKARONGO, Aug. 2. Practically all the families in the district wero represented at the children’s fancy dress ball, pretty costumes making a bright picture. The teachers, Mias Pearce and Air Wood, had taken great pains to prepare the children for the programme, which was: Grand March, Grand Old J>ukc of York, “I See You,” Polonaise, Mountain March, Waltz, “Will You Pc My Partner?” Reap the Flax, Courtesy Step, Cobblers’ Dance, Waltz, Flirtation, Captain Jinks, Pop Goes the Weasel, Maxina, and Skipping in Pairs. Miss Jean Wood was at the piano. A jolly' evening for Hall Queen funds was held recently when tho men played the ladies a challenge euchre match. The latter lost the match. Airs Uhrhom and Miss M. Vauticr; showing top score and Mesdames Crawford and Christiansen the lowest, received Air Walker’s prizes.
There was a good attendance at the Saturday night dance. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr N. Smith and partner, and Aliss Woodd and Mr Reid won the door tickets. Air F. Eagle was AI.C. Queen Carnival. —It has been decided lo dispense with flags and in future tho positions of tho two queens will he written up in the hall each week. The position at present is: Hall Queen, 23,403 (penny votes), School Queen, 17,943. Tho A and B basketball teams played on Saturday, the A team winning by 26 goals to 2 against Technical D and the B team drew 7-all with T.O.G. C. The players wero Aliases J. and H. Wood, E. Woodd, W. and C. Vautier, J. and L. Smith, M. Radcmski, L. Speedy. V. Puklowski, T. Newcombe, E. Vautier, G. Jones. P. and PI. Christiansen, Al. Hodgson, J. Harvey, A. Olsen and I. Johanson. A number were chosen to practise for the B grado representative team. Airs W. Byers continues to improve in health. Airs J. Gray, of Plimmerton, lias boon staying with her mother, Airs Crawford. Successful card evenings have been staged lately at the homes of Alessrs G. Laccy and E. Rout for school queen funds.
