NORTH WELLINGTON FEDERATION. A meeting of tlie executive committee of tlic North Wellington Federation of Women’s Institutes was held yesterday, Miss M. Grant presiding. Correspondence included an. invitation to attend a meeting of the Kotahitangi group at Halcombo The North Hawke’s Bay Federation solicited support for a resolution in an effort to bring about more determined action to eradicate noxious weeds.— Support to be given. _ Mrs Barnicoat presented the financial statement, the following contributions being acknowledged:—Affiliation fees: Utmvai. 16s 6d ; Rangiwahia, £1 8s; Waiata, 11s; Newbury, 12s; Rongotea, £1 15s 6d ; Table Flat, 15s. A report of the recent drama festival was presented and appreciation was expressced of the arrangements made by Mrs Easton (convener) and of the work put in by all the teams and producers, also the glee singing and folk dancing circles, in preparation. The secretary was authorised to write to Mrs L. Bennett expressing thanks for her splendid assistance as stage manager also to Mr and Mrs C. A. Small for their kindly hospitality to Miss Loe. A suggestion pu ! forward by Mrs Easton and approved by the meeting was to the effect that in future festivals there should be a class for junior teams. Following were the certificates awarded: —B: Pohangina, “King’s Son. Churl’s Son.” C: Te Arakura, “A Marriage Has Been Disarranged” ; Milson. “The Person Responsible”; Rangiotu, “And Now the Journey”; Rangiotu, “The Great Dark.” D: Cheltenham. “Sing a Song of Sixpence”; Milson, “Black Night”; Aokautere, “The Signal”; Foxtou “Trial Scene”; Linton, “Romany Road”; Te Arakura, “The Waxen Man.” It was agreed to pay the dues, amounting to £2 odd, in ordci that the winning teams, Pohangina, To Arakura and Milson might appear in the Manawntu area festival in Palmerston North next week. Preliminary arrangements were made for the half-yearly council meeting to be held in October, Mrs C. Williams, “Aina,” Hastings, a member of the Dominion executive, will be an official visitor. Mrs Barnicoat presented a comprehensive report of the school held recently in Wellington. MEETING AT MAKINO. The August meeting of the Makino Women’s Institute was a very happy one, and the motto for the month, “He that would have friends must first of all be friendly,” put all at ease, and new members felt that they were indeed friends and friendly with other members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Vincent. Beazer, Cox, Patterson, Huddleston, and Miss Vincent. An appeal for Christmas gifts from the Makogai leper settlement was received, and members were asked to bring along anything that they thought suitable to the September meeting. The _ gifts asked for were dolls, bats, tennis rackets, balls, silk, light materials,, knitting wool, embroidery cottons, tobacco and pipes, also sweets. Books were not required for the adult patients, but children’s books were needed. As next month brings the birthday celebrations, members were asked to bring a large plate of cakes, and the committee will be responsible for savouries and sandwiches. The hostesses were drawn for. and the following ladies will take charge of the afternoon tea: Mesdames Pilcher. Hislop. Comings. I. W. Wilton. Pearson. Heayns, and Misses B. Oldfield and D. Davey. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs Prouse in her prolonged indisposition. and members hope that it will not l>e long before this valued member is back again with us. An arts and crafts stall will be in charge of Mrs P. R. Simpson. These articles are for display only, and members are requested to bring anv outstanding article or piece of needlework they may possess to the birthdav meeting. Mesdames Simpson and Mayhew were appointee' as delegates to the group meeting at Bunnythorpe. Members were pleased to bear that the Bulls Institute had formed a singing circle, and it was arranged to invite this company over to entertain at the birthday gatlierA demonstration on barbola work was given by Mrs Haytliorne, of Te Arakura, and Mrs ,T. "\V. Mason tendered to Mrs Havthorne the thanks of the Institute for her instruction. In the competitions, Mrs Heayns and Miss R. Thurston gained first and second places for a nlate of biscuits, and Mrs Baker, senr., the prize in the “best bloom from my garden. All the prizes were generously donated byMrs Moray.
