CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Hearing some footballers from Africa were to play a game in town I took a walk to the Square gardens, but I could hardly recognise one; there must have been a terrible wind to blow down all the trees. I tried to reason why such a change. Then I guessed it was to give our friends the Afrikanders a clear view of our wonderful AVar Memorial. It looks more dirty and dilapidated than when I last wrote. I hope the R.S.A. will spare a man and a few pounds to improve matters. I hope, too, our friends may volunteer to do the job. Why not ask these muscular friends to, try their hands at pulling those two precious cannons down to the Fitzherbert bridge? Then when the enemy saw such a wise precaution they would pass on to some other less protected city.—l am, etc., OLD BOY.
