STOWAWAY IN AWATEA.
CAME TO CLAIM LEGACY. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 3. Stranded in Australia with very little money and with .a letter in his pocket from an Auckland firm of solicitors telling him he had been left a small legacy, a middle-aged New Zealander boarded che Union Steam Ship Company’s liner Awatea, at Sydney, and stowed away. When it was reported soon after the ship had left port that he was on board, he explained the circumstances which had caused him to evade the officers at the gangway and enquiries sent to Auckland from nndocean resulted in his case being brought to the notice of some passengers who paid his fare. The traveller was allowed to land with the passengers when the ship arrived at Auckland to-day. He later paid a visit to the solicitors. It was stated that the legacv was not very substantial, but that it was enough to induce him to reach Auckland as soon as possible.
