UNEMPLOYED MEN
WORK FOR THOSE MARRIED. SUCCESSFUL NEGOTIATIONS. (By Telegraph.—Sneeial to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 4. With the co-operation of the New Zealand local bodies, Hon. P. C. Webb (acting-Alinister of Labour) will bo able to give every unemployed married man at least four months’ work: Except for a portion of the vest coast of the North Island, lie has completed his series of Dominion conferences yvith local bodies, “and in every conference,” lie said in an interview, “there lias not been a discordant note.” The Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. AL J. Savage) rvho heard his colleague’s announcement, remarked: “The local bodies have risen to the occasion in a wonderful way.” Air Webb mentioned that he had just been able to place an extra 600 men between Christchurch, New Brighton, Ashburton. Temuka and Geraldine. He leaves for Wanganui, Hawera and New Plymouth to-morrow to complete his successful series of negotiations with the local bodies.
