TRAFFIC CONTROL.
PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS. Per Press Association. AVELLINGTON, Aug. 4. Arrangements for a more rigid enforcement of traffic regulations dealing yvith pedestrians and cyclists yvere announced to-night by Hon. H. G. R. Alason, acting for the Minister of Transport. The police will in future cooperate with the traffic authorities by actively controlling their conduct, and for the present action yvill be directed to educating them in the observance of the regulations. “Road accident statistics,” said Air Mason, “shoyv that daring three and alia.lf months ended June 30 no fewer tlv’l'. 460 pedestrians and push-cyclists yvere involved in accidents yvith motor vehicles. Twenty-four yvere killed, 63 seriously injured and 373 suffered minor injuries. “The returns also show that in 92 of these cases the pedestrians yvere guilty of breaches of tlie regulations and in 138 cases cyclists committed breaches.
