CONGREGATIONAL GUILD.
There was a largo attendance at the monthly meeting of the Congregational Ladies’ Guild, held on Tuesday Airs Mundy presiding. The meet? ing opened with a hymn and prayer. The president extended a warm welcome to all present, special mention being made of Aliss Fawcett and Airs John Grindley, formerly of Auckland, and now a, resident of this city. A welcome was also extended to Airs R. Simpson, who had been unable to attend the guild this year. Correspondence included letters of thanks for sympathy extended to Airs Evans in
her recent bereavement and Airs Hancox in the serious illness of her mother, Airs AVilkinson. The September meeting will take the form of a “gift afternoon”; the gifts will help to equip a leper and tuberculosis hospital in Gemo Island, Papua, a gift of the Government. It will be maintained by the London Atissionarv Society, for which the churches are responsible for the upkeep. Miss Fawcett who spoke on the work of the British and Foreign Bible Society, was presented with a shoulder spray composed of daphne, primula and violets. Aliss Fawcett gave a stimulating talk and described the immensity of the work of the society. On the motion of Airs Mundy the speaker was accorded a vote of thanks.
The pronouncing of the Benediction brought a very interesting meeting to a close. Afternooft tea was served during an interval, the hostesses being Alesdames Spary and Killiek.
