MARINE ACCIDENT.
STRUCK OBJECT IN BIG SEA. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 5. The steamer Tees, now at Lyttelton, is reported to have struck an object while passing through the Straits between Owenga and Pitt Islands, in the Chatham's, last week. The vessel was in the Straits at midnight battling with heavy seas when she ran into a wa.ll of water, bumped heavily and was carried on by a big following sea. When tho vessel bumped she lurched heavily and shipped much water, causing a good deal of alarm among the 21 i>i".scng-?rs. The Tecs is to be docked at Lyttelton for a survey. It is understood that a preliminary marine inquiry has already been held at "Wellington.
