(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILSON, Aug. 5. The Women’s Institute celebrated their fifth birthday on Wednesday afternoon, there being a good attendance of member* and visitors. Mrs F. Murphy (president) extended a welcome. Several new members were enrolled, these being Mcsdamea Penny, Doreen, Bragg, Barsanti, and Miss Penny. All apology for absence was received from Mrs Olds and Mrs Wright. A welcome was also extended to Mrs Scroggs, who has been ill for some time. Tho convenors of tho various circles gave thoir monthiv reports and showed them to be progressive. Mrs Murphy extended thanks to all vho had so kindly given their assistance during tho recent Drama Festival. Mrs Gore gave a very interesting talk on seasonal notes for August. -An afternoon is being held in August to bid farewell to one of the members, Mrs W. Tompelton, this being bold in conjunction with the l.ongbtun group meeting. The annual appeal was made on behalf of the. Leper Island inmates, all members showing their willingness to help. The birthday evening is to bo held at an early date. The programme for the afternoon was: Recitations, Miss Whittaker and Mies Zoe Rabone; Mies Rabono also gave a tap dance. Members of the singing circle and folk dancing circle entertained with items. Mesdanies Rabono and Child gave a lmmorou* dialogue. Mrs Murphy called on Mrs lilt, the oldest member, to light the candles on the birtlitlav cake, which was made and iced bv Mrs Wood, and Miss Do Vanttcr, the youngest member, wus called on to blow'them out. A presentation was made to Mrs Templeton cn behalf of the institute in appreciation of her services. Th* competitions wore: —Soft toy, Mrs Bedmgficld 1. Mrs l’ike 2; posy, Mrs Graham 1, Mm Downing 2; best bloom, Mrs McKenna i, Mrs Graham 2, Miss Burns 3; stockings, Mm H. Riggins. The hostesses fbr tha ,September meeting are: Mesdames Arlidgo. Putsch, Dvmock, Daman, Tlansca, Penny, F. Johnson. Judge, Mandeb, Tozcr, Whitehead. Wcodhill, Williams, Yule, Wischnowsky. Ellis. Hubbard, and Mtsso* Pederson and Proctor.
On Tuesday evening the B grade team from the Milson Tabic Tennis Club visited St. Patrick’s Club for their competition match. The visitors won by 27 games to 9.
