CRICKET SCHOOL.

SEASON OPENED. VISIT BY "SPRINGBOK. The Winter Cricket School opened its season on Tuesday evening, when there was a good attendance. The season was opened by the chairman, Mr R. S. Redward, who welcomed all those present, and wished them success in their efforts to improve their cricket. He referred to the presence of Mr T. A. Harris, the Springbok Rugby player and South African cricketer, and said that the school was honourea to have such a well-known sporting personality present at the opening practice. He called for three cheers for Mr Harris, and these were heartily giyen. Mr Harris briefly responded and mentioned the fact that never before had he seen a school like Palmerston North’s. He thought that the idea could be followed in South Africa with advantage. He wished the members every success with their practices. Subsequently Mr Redward announced that the cup which the school would give to the school’s junior cricketer who gained the best batting average in his grade next season would now be called the Tony Harris Cup. Mr Harris expressed pleasure at this and left his South African address with the secretary so he could bo advised later who won the cup. Later Mr Harris had a bat and, although naturally out of form, lie delighted everybody with some beautiful cover driving. He revealed himself as a batsman of class. When he left the members again gave three cheers for him.
