ADDINGTON SALE.. HEAVY CATTLE ENTRY. Per Press Association. , CIIRISTCHURCII, Aug-. 4. The Addington market to-day drew n very heavy entry of fat cattle, a cattle show being held in conjunction with it for the first limy. Store sheep.—A small entry and a good sale for all classes. The first ewes and lambs of the season, the ewes being aged, made 13s 9d, nil counted. About 25 spring lambs were offered «ind sold from 35s to 40s. Some outstanding fat show sheep were penned, and made from 52s 6d to £4 12s, the latter price for a pen of four. There were several intermediate prices, the market generally being bettor than that of last, week by 2s to 3s a head. Show wethers made 53? to £4 12s Id; heavy prime wethers. 43s to 475; light, down to 275; extra prime show ewes, to, 51s lOd : good heavy, 30s to 353 Id; ordinary, down to 265. Fat cattle. —Entries came from yarious parts of the soutli-wcst coast, and a few from the North Island Bidding was very keen. The top figure was £56 for a Shorthorn bullock from Outram, Taicri. A pen of three Aberdeen Angus-Hereford crr»s from Spofswood. North Canterbury, sold at £36 each. In both these cases the cattle were prize-winners in their classes. Other high prices were £34 for a YVnngamii bullock, and from £26 down to £2O. Extra good show steers made to £56; good show steers, £2O to £3O; extra heavy prime, £l6 10s lo . £lB 10s; prime heavy, £l4 15s to £l6 ss; prime P'pdium-woiVht. £l3 15s to £ls; ordinary, £lO to £l2 15s; show heifers, to £l7 10s; good. £lO to £ll ss; mediumweighl. £7 5s to £9 ss; light and ordinary £5 5s to £7; show cows, to £1312s 6d; good cows. £8 to £9 15s; medium, £5 5s to £7 10s; light to £5. Vealers.—An improved sale by 3s to 5s a heid. Best runners made £6 10s to £7 18s 6d; prime vealers, £3 12s 6d to £5 2s 6d; medium £2 17s 6d to £3 10s; small calves. 25s to £2 17s 6d. Store, cattle.—Dairy cows were indifferently represented, there being no quotable lots'. Fat pigs.—Porkers were belter bv 5s to 6s a head, and baconcrs by 3s. Choppers sold from 58s 6d to £4 18s 6d : show pigs to £11; porkers. 31s 6d to 59s 6d (n.vcrnge a lb, 6id to 7id); baconers, 59s M to £5 14n od (average a lb, 6id to 7d). Store pigs: A sharp recovery in , values. Weanc-s made _ 14s to 18s 6d; i stores, 24s to 335; sows in pig, £3 10s to £5 2s 6d. VALUES AT JOIINSONVILLE. WELLINGTON. Aug. 5. A latge yarding of all classes of cattle and sheep came forward at the Johnsonvillc stock stile yesterday. The bullocks wire chiefly prime heavyweight cattle,
with a few pens of prime light to med ium-weight bullocks. Competition wai keen for all classes, with prices firm for heavy cattle, and extra prime mediumweight bullocks 5s a head dearer. Light and unfinished showed no alteration. The yarding of cows and heifers was not up to the usual quality. Extra prime heavy cows sold readily, and medium-weights were slightly easier and unfinished sorts 5s to 10s down on last week’s rates. Cows ox dairy sold' at prices ruling on upcountry ratos. A good sale resulted, for runners and vealers at prices showing no alteration. The yarding' of sheep was ot exceptionally good quality throughout. Extra prime heavy wethers met with spirited competition at prices showing a firming tendency, and prime mediumweight sheep wore firm to the extent of Is a head. The first consignment of shorn wethers came forward. _ Competition for these was keen and in comparison with woolly wethers there was little difference. There was a good sale for all classes of owes, which sold readily at prices from Is to Is 6d ahead of last week’s rates. Prime quality lambs met with a good sale, but light and unfinished were unsought even at reduced limits. At the weekly stock sale at Levin (here was a small yarding of pigs, a medium yarding of sheep, and large yardings of cattle, particularly in the beef section, quality on the whole being well up to I standard. Sheen sold well under keen ; competition. In the fat. cattle section ■ beef was a shade easier because of a I slight over-supply, but good quality met with a keen demand and sold readily under the hammer. Prices ranged as follow: — Pigs. —Sows to farrow. £2 to £4 10s; slips, 16s to 18s; medium stores. 23s to 265; light pork, 36s 6d to £2 Is; medium. £2 5s to £2 12s; heavy, £2 16s to £3 7s 6d. STORTFORD LODGE. Per Press Association. HASTINGS, Aug. 4. • Parity values for fat cattle were experienced at to-day’3 stock sale, at Stortford Lodge, when a moderate entry of 275 head wa soffered, -but' lighter and plainer sorts met an .easing in values. Fat sheep values were fairly well maintained with keenest competition for weighty, well-finished lines, lighter sorts being slightly easier. The range of values was as follows: j . Fat cattle.—Bullocks, medium to prime £ll to £l3, others from £9; cows, medium to nrime £9 to £lO 11s, others from £5.; hetfers, medium to prime £9 15s to £lO 15s; others from £7. Store cattle: Wearier steers, to £5 14sI weaner heifers, to £3. Fat sheep: Ewes, medium to prime 28s to 38s; wethers, medium to prime', 34s to 37s 8d; hoggets, medium to prime 27s to 36s 9d; others from 19s; two-tooths, prime, to 29s Bd. Store sheep: Wethers, fat and forward, to 27s 6d; wether hoggets, shorn to 225, woolly to 255: ewes, four and five-year to 255, sixtooth to 31s.
WESTFIELD PRICES. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 4. For the first tirhc since the beginning of March, beef was quoted to a hundred pounds at Westfield to-day, representing an increase of Is on the recent scale of values. Much prime ox beef was sold in a larger entry, which also included some primer cows and heifers. Steers made up to 15s a head more than last week. Extra choice ox sold at 34s a hundred pounds, choice an<£ prime 30s to 335, unfinished 2os to 295; prime cow and heifer beef, 27s to 3(K unfinished 18s to 265; extra heavy steers £ls 5s to £l6 15s, heavy £l2 5s to £ls 2s 6d, medium £ll 5s to £l3 17s 6d, light £lO to £l2 15s, • unfinished £5 to £9 15s; extra heavy cows and heifers £9 5s to £ll, heavy £8 to £9 2s 6d, medium £7 to £8 10s, light £5 to £7 ss, unfinished £3 l(Xs to £4 17s 6d. Fewer sheep were yarded and firm values were maintained, some extra choice lines realising high prices. Lambs were in average numbers and also sold at late rates. Extra heavy wethers made 40ts to 445, heavy 37s to 39s 6d, medium 35e to 38s 6d, light 33s to 36e, unfinished 27n 3d to 335; extra heavy ewes 32s to 345, heavy 28s 6d to 31s 6d, medium 263 to 28s 9d, light 21s 6d to 245, unfinished 5s to *2os; prime lambs 21s to 32s 3d, unfinished 15s to 20s. In a medium yarding of calves values for all prime sorts improved. Runners made £3 to £8 10s; heavy vealers. £4 10-3 to. £5 Bs,. medium £4 to £4 Bs, light £3 lls to £3 18a, smaller £2 12s to £3 3s. unfinished £1 19s to £2 6s, bobby and rough 4s to 30?. While bacon values remained firm, prices foi porkers were inclined to case. Choppern solci at £2 5s to £4 lls; heavy baconera, £4 7s lo £5, medium £3 18s to £4 ss. light £3 10a to £3 15s: heavy porkers, £2 14s to £3 ss. medium £2 7s to £2 16s, light £2 to £2 7s, small and unfinished. £1 5s to £1 17s; stores, £1 8s to £1 16s; slips, £1 to £1 8s; weanera, 10s to 21s. Baeoners averaged 7d a pound and porkers 6fd to 63d.
BURNSIDE SALE. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Aug. 4. Fat cattle were dearer ot the Burnside stock sole to-’aay. but fat sheep were firm at last week’s rates, with an easing for poorer quality. Extra .prime heavy bullocks made to £l9 17s 6d, prime £l4 10s to £l6, medium £ll 15s to £l4, light and unfinished down to £8 ss: extra prime cows arid heifers to £l3 7s 6d. prime £8 15s to £9 15s, medium £6. 10s to £B, light and unfinished £5 to £6 ss. A line of • three-year store stents made to £8 Bs, and others wore firm at late rates. In the fat sheep section there were 1964 forward. Extra prime heavy wethers mad 6 to £2 12s 6d, prime £1 16s to £2 3s, medium £1 12s to £1 15s, light £1 7s 6d to £1 lls. extra prime heavy ewes lo £1 17s 3d, prime ,£1 8s to £1 lls, medium £1 3s to £1 7s, light down to 14s A medium entry of fat pigs sold well at late rates.
