EKETAHUNA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) EKETAHUNA, Aug. 4. Hie death took place at the residence of her son. Mr C. C. Youle, at Ashhurst, on Saturday, of Mrs Ann Jane Youle widow of the late Mr T. Youle, and formerly of Newman. Mrs 11. Petersen, of Pleckville. has returned from a visit to Sydney. Nurse Petersen is visiting her mother, Mrs Petersen. The death occurred at Newman recently of Mr James McKenna, one of the most highly respected residents of the district, at the age of 79 years. The bachelors’ and benedicts’ ball at Rongokokako drew many visitors. Extras were played by Misg Peggy Drysdale and Air N. Cooper. Novelty dances were won as follow:—Monte Carlo, Mr and Mrs Wright: lucky spot. Miss Bilby and Mr G. Riiakere. The M.C.’s were Messrs P. Foster and F. Sigvertsen. A presentation v*is made, to Mr and. Mrs A. Smith, who are leaving the district to take un their residence ■at New Mataroa. The Women’s Institute also made a presentation (o Mrs Smith. . The death occurred at the Masterton Hospital after a short illness of Mr Alfred; Southey, a. well-known identity of the Wairarapa for practically the whole of his Jifc of 83 years. In 1881 he married Miss Rose Burling, of Tinui, and is survived bv his widow, seven sons (of whom one is Mr A P. Southey, of Eketabumi). and Ihree daughters. \Tlierc are 38 "rnndcliildren and nine great-grand-children.
Mr Iv. Death is at present with friends kt Atea. Messrs C. I*:.. W. and S. N. Goss have been on a shooting trip to White Rock station. Mr R. S. Ilodder lias returned from a holiday spent in the Wairarapa. Miss S. Hooker was a recent jruest of Mrs A. Davicl«n7v Miss .Joan Goss is at present in Ma.sterton. Mr A. Spring has returned from a holiday in Nelson. Mr M. Spring has left- for Runnythorpe. Air N. Mason has returned from Wellington. Mi' J. Nicols is the guest of Mrs W. Goss, Nireaha. Miss Aloe and Mr .T. Alpc. who have been residing in Nireaha for some time,, have returned to Martinbbrowt.il. Air and Mrs W. Prydo and family have been on holiday at Paraparaum'u Roach. Ml* Cyril Goss has left to spend a holiday at Gisborne. Rotorua, and Hamilton. Members of the Golf Club assembled in good numbers at the afternoon tea which was hold to farewell. Air and Afrs D. G. ATofFntt, who are leaving the district. The president, Mr H. R. Greathead, in making a presentation to too guests, expressed appreciation of the valuable services rendered by Air Aloft'att in the capacity, of secretary for three years. He also made reference to the support given by Airs AfolVafl. to the club.
