RECORD FOR THE COURSE. ENDEAVOUR’S BAD LUCK. Received August 6. 1.15 p.m. NEW YORK. Aug. 5. Despite crossing the starting line ahead of time and being compelled to cross again, the Endeavour made the best race of the America’s Cup series. The Ranger assumed a 200-yard lead before the Endeavour could rectify the error. The American boat increased the lead to three-quarters of a mile before the i first turning, but the Endeavour made up 30 seconds on the second leg, in which she outraced the Ranger and slie seemed to be overhauling her on the third leg in a 15-mile south-west wind, hut the Ranger was too far, ahead, finishing a quarter of a mile in the le.nd and establishing a new record for the rectangular course.
