SLUGGISH RIVER.
DRAINAGE BOARD. A meeting of the Sluggish River Drainage Hoard was helu yesterday, those present being Messrs E. J. Foster (in the chair), At. J.-Ryan, E. G. Print, A. N. Morcom and W. H. Giinblett. It was decided to strike the rates as published in the “Standuid ’ on July z-L. Lt was resolved to write to the Public Trust Office stating that a drain on the Easton Estate is not yet in a satisfactory condition. It waa decided that the board should meet the trustees of Brown’s Estate, at the property, for the purpose ot discussing the diversion of a drain. The chairman’s action in allowing the board’s employees a- holiday for the purpose of seeing the Springbok v. Manawatu Rugby match was endorsed. The report of the overseer (Mr AV. Locke) was received as lollows: “Since the last meeting we have worked one day in Johnston’s drain and two days in the Sluggish Creek, taking off bends and widening. AVe also widened and deepened about 18J chains in Saunders’s drain. Johnston’s, Kopane 108, Odgers’s and Dyer’s drains have been passed.”
