RETAINED BY UNITED STATES. FOURTH SUCCESSIVE AVIN. ENDEAVOUR’S DEFEAT. (United Press Association.-—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 6, 9.20 a.m. NEAVPORT, Aug. 5. The United States retains tlio America’s Cup, Air Vanderbilt’s yacht Ranger beating the British challenger, Mr T. O. AI. Sopwith’s Endeavour II for the fourth successive time. The cup goes to the yacht winning the most out of seven races. RANGER THE FASTER. MR SOPAVITH’S BELIEF. NEAVPORT, Aug. 5. Air Sopwith after the race tacitly acknowledged that he had abandoned hope. “The Ranger is the faster boat. All the Endeavour can do to-morrow is to try to catch her,” ho said. Critics pay a tribute to Air Sopwith’s handling, which it considered could not have been excelled even by Mr A 7 anderbilt, but the opinion is expressed that the Ranger is invincible. One Press commentator sums up with the view: “Tho Endeavour is probably the fastest racing sloop ever built—with the exception of the Ranger.”
