MATCH DRAWN
WARWICK AND DOMINION. TOURIST’S DIFFICULT TASK. WEIR HITS POWERFULLY. (From tho Special Correspondent of the United Press Association with the Team.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received August 7, 10.5 a.in. LONDON, Aug. G. The New Zealand cricketers’ match with Warwickshire ended in a draw. Warwick in the first innings made 259 and they declared at nine wickets for 322 in the second. The tourists made 260 in their first innings and had iost six for 219 at the end of the day. The New Zealanders, in muggy heat, bowled and fielded keenly. Moloney maintained his length and spin eouimendably and Vivian and Gall.iclian were consistently steady. The Warwickshire tail-enders billowed hit or miss tactics and enjoyed considerable fortune, many mishits lulling clear ol the fieldsmen.
Warwick's recovery after losing five wickets cheaply set the tourists the rather difficult task of scoring 302 in tiie fourth innings to win. Their difficulties were increased when the first three wickes fell for 61 runs. Hadlee and Wallace were both comfortable and aggressive. Weir gave a fine exhibition of powerful driving, hitting eight fours. Weir and Donnelly together put on 65 in 40 minutes. Five were out for 126. Carson and Moloney played steadily when the side was in the shadow of possible defeat. Carson played some powerful scoring strokes, especially to anything that was short. He hit six fours. The sixth wicket fell when the score was 200. The new ball was not taken, tho countv relying on the spin bowlers as the wicket was showing signs of wear.
Moloney patiently played out time with Page. Moloney showed fine patience on defence when the county were striving for a win. Details:—
