AOKAUTERE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) AOKAUTERE, July 9. One hundred and thirty friends and iclatives were the guests of Mr and Mrs S. W. Lankshcar, at the Aokautere Hall, the occasion being the coming-of-ngo party tendered to their oldest son, Maurice Sidney. The evening was spent in dancing, with items interspersed while a cheery fire burnt in the back room for those playing cards. Mr L. Burmeistcr, of Ivairanga, kept things moving with a swing, in his capacity as M.C. Fruit salad served at intervals proved refreshing. After supper Mr It. R. Scott said there was no need for him to try to express the guest’s popularity in the district, as the ' many friends present testified to this. However, on behalf of those present ho asked Mr Maurice Lankshear to accept a varied array of presents. Musical honours were accorded the guest, after which he thanked one and all for their kind wishes. Mr Scott also mentioned that Miss I. Anderson was celebrating her birthday on the same day, and on behalf of Mr and Mrs Lankshear asked Miss Anderson’s acceptance of a small token. Musical honours were accorded and Mr Scott .concluded 1 with thanks to the host and hostess, Mr and Mrs I>nnkshear. The beautiful birthday cake having been cut, the health of the guest was drunk and he was presented with a large golden key. Several amusing competitions were conducted, Mrs L. Craven and Mr T. Hopcroft winning the honeymoon couple’s race. A doll s name competition was won by Mrs Poison. Novelty dances were won by Miss E. Hey and Mr R. Benton in the Lucky Gay Gordons, a lucky spot waltz being won by Mrs G. Edvvean and Mr J. Haslock. A lucky spot fox trot was won by Miss L. Gough and Mr T. Hopcroft, the Monte Carlo Waltz going to Miss L. Davcy and Mr T Hopcroft. Music for the dancintr was supplied by Miss G* Lawrence and Mr A. Lawrence, extras being given by Mr R. Brill and by Mr M. Lankshear and partner on their piano accordeons. The following items were appreciated: Trish Reel in costume. Miss 11. Lanksliear: vocal solos. Miss Monica Lvneli monologues, Mr Burmeister; hula dances, Miss E. Knowles.
