RUGBY, Aug. 16. British overseas trade returns for July were £26,000,000 more than_ in July, 1936. Exports of United Kingdom goods valued at £47,569,834 were the highest since July, 1930, and compare with £44,373,015 in J une and £40,085,922 a year ago. Imports were valued at £85,505,039. as against £88,116,677 in June. Last year the values for June and July were £67,599,397 and £68,735,352 respectively. In the first seven months of this year the United Kingdom exports exceed in value the exports for the same period of 1936 by £/,483,912, and that this increase does not merely reflect a rise in prices is shown by the fact that exports of coal have risen from 19,634,918 tons in the seven months of last year to 22,704.388 tons this year despite Italy’s taking less than half the quantity she took in 1935, the last normal year, and that exports of iron and steel and manufactures thereof have risen from 1,266,902 tons to 1,581, 1 30 tons. On the other hand, the rise in the value of imports was largely the result or higher prices.
