WOMEN’S CRICKET.

NAPIER v. KOWHAI. An interesting cricket match took place at the week-end at the Palmerston North Sportsground, when the Kowhai (Palmerston North) women’s team defeated a women’s team from Napier by the nai-row margin of two runs. Features were the bowling strength of the visitors and the fielding of the home team, while the play of both teams throughout showed evidence of sound coaching. The visitors arrived from Napier on Saturday and in the evening a large party attended a picture theatre. The return journey was made by bus last evening. Both teams wore neat white shorts and shirts, a note of colour being added by the niaroo/i caps and blue blazers of the Napier team. The captain of the-visitors, Miss C. Fernandos, said that while thiv.'e was some interest in women’s cricket in Hawke’s Bay the game was handicapped owing to lack of competition, and that it was only by challenging outside teams that competitive play was possible. It was decided to play a return match early in February.

The Napier team was chaperoned by Mrs A. E. Signal!, Mr F. Thompson being manager. The umpires were Messrs A. Signall (Napier), and F. Collis (Palmerston North). Detailed results are as follow:
