YOUTHS’ ESCAPADE.
DISCHARGE OF FIREWORKS. “OBJECTIONABLE AND DANGEROUS.” “These youths exploded fireworks in the Square on New Year’s Eve when the footpaths were crowded with peopie. They explained that they had done it for fun. It is a practice which is objectionable and dangerous,” commented Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre, when fines of 10s, with 12s costs, were imposed by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M.. on four defendants in the Magistrate s Court at Palmerston North to-day. Defendants were William Percival Brooks, a farmhand; George Chowen Jamieson, of Rewa; AA illiam Stephen Jamieson, of Rewa; and Albin William Ivarlson, farmhand, of Whakarongo. They were charged that, on December 31, without reasonable cause, they set off fireworks in the Square so as to annoy, endanger, or frighten passers-by.
