AMATEUR CYCLING.
The Palmerston North Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club opened its road cycling season on. Saturday with a race twice around the Milson block. There was very little wind and times were fast for so early in the season. Two riders were unfortunate, E. Wilson breaking his chain wheel as he went over the finishing line and H. Donovan, who, as, the race was starting, had the bad luck of a blow-out. The first two riders away were G. Bull and H. Graham. At the completion of one lap Graham was first round, closely followed by Hansen, who had caught up a minute and ahalf. Next came Little, who was pedalling fast. He was followed by Bull. Then came Essex and Campbell, and a little farther back was Wilson, who was alone and moving along at a fast pace. In the last lap Little caught the leaders and on coming into the straight was leading. Near the finishing line Hansen came away and flashed over the line for first, Little and Graham being next. Wilson caught Essex and Campbell and finished fourth and gained fastest time. The following are the official placings:—P. Hansen (6tmin) 1, I. Little tomin) 2, H. Graham (Bmin) 3. Fastest time: E. Wilson (linin) 1, I. Little (omin) 2.
