ADHERENCE PROMISED. PREMIER’ Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 6. “The issue of conscription has been mentioned to-night, and I do not want to treat it lightly,” said the Prime Minister; (Hon. P. Fraser), speaking at the opening of the campaign of Mr P. Carr, official Labour Party candidate for the vacant Auckland West spat, at Ponsonby to-night. iq'
“I have said on previous occasions that, if our shores were invaded or if there were a thi-eat of invasion, every man and woman and every penny of money would be at the'disposal of the State,” Mr Fraser said, amid ajiplause. “The Labour Party and the Government have stood for the voluntary system, which, up to the present time, lias been a great success,” he added
A voice: But it is not fair. Mr Fraser; The Government adheres to the voluntary system. The war effort of New r Zealand was also discussed briefly by Mr Carr. He said he was 100 per cent, behind the policy of the Government in regard to the war. \
