HOPELANDS SCHOOL.
Postponed from tlie previous week because of the. absence of the chairman (Mr A. E. East), the biennial meeting of householders was held at the Hopelands School on Monday. Only five householders, all of whom had been nominated for re-election to the committee, attended and all were declared elected, as follow:—Messrs East, J. Jackson, W. Toogood, G. Sinclair, and R. Jackson. The chairman reported that the school roll stood at 13. Although difficulty hod always been experienced in getting a good attendance at householders’ meetings, there was no lack of interest among residents in the welfare of the school, and evidence of this was seen in the very satisfactory state of the committee’s finances and the ready response afforded all appeals for funds. In the course of his report, the headmaster of the school (Mr L. J. Hills) said that an extensive; scheme of tree-planting had been carried out during the year aiul was still in progress. As a result the environs—an important factor in modern education—had been greatly improved. At a subsequent meeting of the committee, Mr East was rc-elected chairman and Mr J. Jackson secretary.
