CHANNEL DUEL.
LONG-RANGE GTJNS BUSY. LONDON, Sept. 12. A convoy of at least 12 large enemy ships was sighted yesterday afternoon in the Channel near Cap Gris Nez en route to Boulogne. There they put up a smoke screen and were also covered hy a dive-bombing attack against Dover, which was also shelled by guns mounted on the French coast The British guns replied,- after which R.A.F. raiders disappeared toward the Franco-Belgian coastline and were believed to be dropping bombs eastward of Calais. The long-range duel across- tne Channel continued after dark, interspersed with the chattering of the defence against lone German fighters and dive-bombers. It was Dover s severest shelling during the war. Some were killed and others wounded. (The foregoing message was delayed upwards of 11 hours.)
