PALMERSTON NORTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the above Council was held on the evening of the 1st inst. PRESENT. His Worship, the Mayor, and Crs. Jenssen, Linton, Walton, Manson, Marsh, Owen, and Summerhays. MINUTES. The Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. PRECIS OF LETTERS READ. From W. Johnston, M.H.R., re Borough Reserve. From Crown Lands Office, re same. From Murray, Common & Co., re Loan. From Trust & Loan Company, re Loan. From Bank of New Zealand, re Loan. From Wanganui Building Society, re Loan. From Treasury, with balance of subsidy. From Public Works Office, re approaches to the new bridge. From Colonial Secretary's Office, acknowledging receipt of a copy of amended Borough Bye-Laws. From, Colonial Secretary, handing over the Government Immigration Barracks at Terrace End for a hospital, with the land adjoining. From the Secretary of the Fire Brigade, requesting a subsidy towards that body. Resolved, That the letter lie over for further consideration by the Council. From the Fire Brigade, asking the Council to appoint certain of its officers Fire Inspectors for the Borough. RESOLUTIONS. "That a letter be written to the Minister for Public Works, requesting that the balance of money voted for approaches to the Manawatu Bridge be
expended in metalling the approach on the South side." " That his Worship, while in Wanganui, should wait upon the manager of the Wanganui Building Society, and try to arrange for the first instalment of the loan." "That the Council meet on the first Wednesday in each month, instead of the first Friday," "That the Council accept the offer made by the Government, to hand over the Barracks for use as a hospital for the district." REPORTS. Public Works Committee's monthly report read and adopted. Report of valuation of the present public Pound received. Overseer's, monthly report received and read. Treasurer's report shewed a debit balance of £510. ACCOUNTS PASSED FOR PAYMENT. Accounts amounting to £109 16s 6d were passed for payment. Council adjourned until the first Wednesday in April.
