The careless *_anuer m which the documents have been compiled, together with the unsatisfactory replies to Audit observations previously made upon those accounts, venders a satisfactory examination of them utteriy impossible. It is, tbevefove, my inteutiou, m order to save fur- her waste of time, to make a personal inspect ion of ihe documents at the office of tiie Counc'i at as early a date as may be convenient. It is not considered to be oecessa-'y for the present to supplement previous Audit observations uooo the documeats ia question, fu.vher (can to invite the attention of the Council to tbe differences existing between the accounts previously forwarded for Audit observations upon the dOcumeots supplied, further thau to invite thealtention of -the Council to the dtffereiiees existing between the accounts previously fottwarded for Audit and those pow supplied; also to the alterations and erasures made iv the books of the Council subsequent to the first examination of those documents by this department., It may be observed that, m the amended Balance Sheet, a Debtor Balance is shewn of £55 17s 4dj whereas the Bank Book shews Credit Balance of £27 17s 4d, from which deduct unpresented cheques, si aled to amount to £23 12s 6d. -This would leave a Credit Balance of £4 4s lOd, instead of the Debtor Balance shewn m the accounts.
