In it the writes appears to hold the Borough Engineer, guilty of negligence m aro wing a recently formed dangerous nui sance to exist. Though at first glance his ; deduction appears just, a short •xplanatioa ■thus will show the, i^erse. The. Borough, Engineer, as far back as, the sth, saw the. dangerous hole left "by the side of Mainstreet East, by the removal of the planking of abridge and immediately called attention to it, as also attended a member cf the ' Public W.orks Qommittee i». *p. insjiectipn

of the same on the following day. He was then instructed to request the Town Clerk to write to the person who had caused the removal of the planking to restore the bridge to its former condition, and explain bis action. This it was not prudent to do until it had been first ascertained who the offender, was and therefore a letter was written to the person on whose ground the plunking was supposed to be to ask if he could give nny information. This has been done, and his reply is awai'#J, pending which nothing further has been done. Though the Borough would be, m the first place, responsible for any loss or damage caused by the existence of this dangerous hole on on the side of Main-street Hast, y«t itwould have its remeclj against the person or parsons by whose acts the danger wa3 produced. — Yours &c, E. J. Armstrong, Borough Engineer..
