ANGELIC APPEARANCES.
A very disagteeblo affair, recently opcurred ' at ICew Hampshire, and ha* created an exceedingly painful sensation there. The Rev. Mr Whit* i* ins minister of a sect known • aath*'^ Angelic Believers,", and preaches .every Sunday to his congregation m the -Tillage of Passamawaehburch, New Hampshire. The. Angelic Believers hold to the ' opinion that enough attention has not been ; paid to angels, whp.if p«op.e»ljr treated would pay occasional visits te repectable believers. Mr White, m a sermon which he pr«ach«d one daj last mehth, remarked that "angels is liable to turn np anywheres," and stated ' that he •b.o.uld, net be surpaised at receiving ''at .any momenta visit TronY "these celestial 1 beings. ; Amongst those present when this Sermon was delivered, were three boys, two of them brothers, by name Roberts, and the other boy nailed George Blodgett-r-aU three 'summer ' visitors from B.oston. The next evening, ICaster Blpdgett, having borrowed three 1 of his sister's nightgowns, arrayed Himself and the two Master Roberts m these gartnemts, on which he had stitched chickens' wings^ and folded -white handler* 1 chiefs roaud their hea is, to mak* thd illusion,more complete, the. three uapriUciplcd youbhs proceeded to Mf White's house and knocked at the door. The rever/rad gentleman at fijat requested hi« visitors to go *way, but being informed, that thej were, anjels ■'■who had called to thank him for his complimentary remarks, at once admit f, them) with a warm .welcome. Master Blodget. then suggested that either a kid or a fatted .calf should be killed, and r.oasted fqr a*PP» r Mr White expressed his profound regret i that he had no kids. or., calf* on his premises, brought out some cold poik from his •larder. The angels however, indignantly refused to eat the pork) upon which Mr White killed and prepared to broil' * chicken, and produced a betthi of cider tad and dough- nuts. Mrs White entered, the room, and was introduced to them with much pride by her husband. Being struck however, by the smallness of their- wings, she examinedthem closely, and discovered on each of their garments the intials of Master BlodgettV sister she, indignantly exclaimed that she. had- herself washed " all three of them nightgowns," and immtdtately locking the. door, . proceeded witfr> the assistance of Mr WhiteV whdse anger was : also aroused; to adminster a sound thrashing ;to the angels by means of a stout hroom* i stick.. At the end of about 15. minutes the |brpomstick broke, when Master Blodgett : and companions, •were' allowed; to depart on ; payment of 2 dpi. each,- the. 'estimated cost of the. supper.
