THE JACKEYTOWN SCHOOL.

.; TO THH XDITOB. Sib,—ln the issue of the Wttnganui Chronicle of the 31st of December a report is published by Mr. Browne, Secretary to the Education Board, headed "The Rival School Sites at Jackeytown," I seldom take any notice of such reports, but I cannot allow such misstatements as those published by Mr. Browne to go unoontradicted. Mr. Browne says, that the site recommended by the Committee is somewhat over a mile from, the Karere Railway station. Ob the Jackeytown aide, excepting Mr. Richardson's I could not see any signs of dwellings near or around the site. The posts ars standing on the publio road opposite the site. f There are distinctly visible' twelve houses and six of those houses are within sixty chains of the proposed site, and at present we oould send sixteen children to the school if erected there. I would advise the Education Board that the next time they send Mr. Browne to make any report to furnish him with a pair of •pec's. In regard to the site at Mr. Sharman's, Mr. Browne says it is well situated m four main line of roads running at right angles with the railway. Allow ma to say that the line is a bye-road; I took.down the number of children who would, attend a school if erected m this position, and by a curious coincidence they also amounted to twentyfour. This is untrue, as was pointed out to Mr. Browne at the time by one of the oommittee. The lowest number at the site at Mr. Shiftman's was sixteen,- and at Mr. Biohardson's thirty-two. That, the Education Board knows full well, as a short time .ago a memorial'was sent m to the Board signed by more than two-thirds of the householders approving of the site at Mr. Biehardson.s, and also the number of children who would .attend either school. How our memorial has been treated with such contempt •I am at a loss to understand. The site at Mr. Sharman's is a clearing of about seventy acres which may be told at any time. It may be said that; I have no interest m. the school, but if it it erected at Mr. Bichard son's fourteen of my grandchildren will attend it.—l am, &0.,
